In the bustling atmosphere of the Alimentaria Fair, where culinary excellence merges with gastronomic innovation, the finals of the prestigious Chef of the Year and Waiter of the Year competitions took place on March 21 in Barcelona. This event, which marked the 9th edition of the Chef of the Year competition and the 5th of the Waiter of the Year competition , also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the former and the 10th anniversary of the latter, adding even more sparkle to an occasion already charged with excitement and prestige.
The Chef of the Year Competition was founded in 2004, and over the past two decades, it has become the most widely followed culinary event in the Spanish media. Over the course of its 9 editions to date, the competition has produced more than 5 Michelin-starred chefs , including Jordi Cruz, the winner of the 1st edition, and Cristobal Muñoz, the winner of the 8th edition.
In 2012, Chef of the Year Competition He is joined by that of Waiter of the Year , focused on highlighting the role of dining room professionals in Spain. A prestigious jury and a firm commitment to promoting the importance of the dining room have led the Waiter of the Year Competition to hold its 5th edition this year, 2024.
In this high-level culinary competition, two true talents emerged as winners: Toño Rodríguez, chef of the La Era de los Nogales restaurant , and Miguel López, of the Garena restaurant . Both stood out for their skill, passion, and dedication, leaving an indelible impression on the judges and the audience.
Toño Rodríguez, who recently received the coveted Sol Repsol Award in the 2024 edition, added another notable achievement to his list by being proclaimed Chef of the Year .
